We visited 17 schools in ‘G South’ ward (Mumbai) in March/April 2019 and taught over 3000 students the importance of voting and exercising their right. They were explained about democracy and it’s advantages, the election process and how we should elect our representatives. Though the kids were not eligible voters, we believe that these values should be taught to kids at young age, so they grow to be responsible citizens. They were asked to take the message home to their families and spread the word. Incidentally the voter turnout in G Ward increased by 3.5%
Like in many developing nations, lurking in the shadows of a high growth rate and economic development, social inequality is often an overlooked problem. Uplift was launched with the aim to stop all segregation that exists within the societies of high-rise buildings, where there is a use of segregated elevators for people of based on their socio-economic background. Uplift is working towards eradicating this practice, and implementing all-inclusive elevators in all neighbourhoods.
Awareness about such an archaic rule needs to be made, as they are reminiscent of the caste system, which supposedly was discontinued in the late 20th century.
